Revolutionizing the Electrical Industry with Standardized Bills of Materials

One critical component of project management is the Bill of Materials (BoM)

In the fast-paced world of electrical contracting, the tools we use can either streamline our processes or create unnecessary hurdles. One of the most critical components of project management is the Bill of Materials (BoM). Despite its importance, the industry has long struggled with a lack of standardization in BoM formats, leading to inefficiencies and errors. At Condoit, we recognized this challenge and have made it our mission to revolutionize how BoMs are generated and utilized.

I’m thrilled to announce that Condoit is setting a new industry standard with our enhanced Bill of Materials generation feature. These groundbreaking capabilities are designed to offer unprecedented specificity, accuracy, and utility for electrical contractors and their distributors.

Why Standardized BoMs Matter

Imagine trying to order materials for a complex project without a consistent format. It’s like playing a game of telephone, where each party might interpret the message differently. This lack of clarity can lead to mistakes, project delays, and increased costs.

A standardized BoM format ensures that every detail is communicated clearly and consistently. It establishes an industry-wide data structure–or a schema. It includes essential information such as the name and contact information of the contractor, project details, lead times, manufacturer guidelines, and precise specifications for each piece of equipment.

This level of detail eliminates ambiguity, making the ordering process seamless and efficient. It drastically reduces the margin of error and naturally the costs and time associated with procuring the wrong materials for a job.

Automated Raceway Materials Generation

One of the standout features of our new BoM generation tool is the automated raceway materials generation. When you specify a raceway, our software calculates the total length and automatically adds the necessary couplings and connectors.

For example, if you specify a 2” EMT raceway that is 200 feet long, the system will add 20 couplings and 2 connectors to the BoM. This automation significantly reduces the likelihood of omissions and errors, ensuring that all necessary materials are included from the start. Further automations for even better materials and equipment ordering are coming soon.

Flexibility to Adapt

We understand that last-minute changes are a reality in project management. That’s why we’ve introduced the ability to manually add equipment or materials to the BoM after generation. This feature allows you to easily insert additional items through text fields before sending the BoM to distributors, ensuring that all project requirements are met, even if new needs arise during the process.

Seamless Communication with Distributors

Effective communication is key to successful project execution. With Condoit’s new 1-click Send feature, you can effortlessly dispatch the completed BoM to one or multiple distributors.

A checkbox option at the time of sending makes this process intuitive and efficient. Once the BoM is sent, Condoit will notify you that you can expect a response from your local supply house regarding the status of your quote soon. No more guesswork and makes for far easier planning and scheduling.

Supporting Electrification Projects

The standardized BoM format and enhanced generation features are particularly beneficial for electrification projects, such as EV charger installations and commercial solar projects. These projects often involve integrating new equipment with existing infrastructure, requiring precise planning and coordination.

With Condoit’s BoM tools, you can quickly and accurately design and document the necessary materials for these projects. This ensures compatibility and efficiency, reducing the risk of errors and delays. Whether you’re upgrading an existing electrical system to support EV chargers or installing a new commercial solar array, our BoM tools provide the accuracy and specificity needed to streamline the process.

A Technological Leap Forward

The introduction of a standardized BoM format is more than just a feature update; it’s a technological leap forward for the industry. By integrating this new BoM capability with our existing tools, such as our popular Single-Line Diagrams and equipment photos, we’re providing a comprehensive solution that represents both existing and new infrastructure. This integration ensures that every aspect of your project is documented and easily accessible, making it easier for you to manage and communicate with suppliers.
